How do I use a flower press?

Using a Studio Wald flower press is simple. Place your flowers, leaves or other botanical finds between the sheets of paper, sandwich them between the layers of card and tighten the press using the supplied bolts or bands.

Leave your pressings somewhere dry and out of direct sunlight.

Our flower presses come with everything you need to get started, along with instructions to guide you through the process.

How long does it take to press flowers?

Most flowers and leaves take around 2–4 weeks to dry completely, although this varies depending on the type of plant and how much moisture it contains.

Thicker or more moisture-rich flowers may need a little longer. It’s worth checking your pressings after a couple of weeks and giving them more time if they still feel soft.

What flowers can I press?

You can press all sorts of flowers, leaves, grasses and foliage. Smaller, flatter flowers tend to be particularly easy to press, but experimenting is part of the fun.

Take your press out on a walk, into the garden or wherever your wanderings take you and see what you can find.

Can I press leaves and foliage?

Absolutely. Leaves, grasses and delicate foliage can all be pressed alongside flowers.

Pressed botanicals are lovely for framing, crafting, scrapbooking, nature journals or simply keeping as a little reminder of somewhere you’ve been.

How do I press seaweed?

Our Seaweed Press has been specially designed for pressing seaweed and other coastal finds.

Simply place your clean seaweed between layers of waxed paper and sugar paper, then add the layers of card either side and tighten the press. The waxed paper helps to deal with the extra moisture released by seaweed as it dries.

Once completely dry, your pressed seaweed can be framed or added to a nature journal.

Can I use a flower press for seaweed?

We recommend using our Seaweed Press for pressing seaweed.

Seaweed contains considerably more moisture than most flowers and leaves, which is why our Seaweed Press uses waxed paper specifically designed for the job.

Can I reuse the flower press paper?

Yes. Flower press paper can be reused while it remains clean and dry.

For seaweed pressing, we recommend replacing the paper after repeated use as the moisture released by seaweed can discolour and damage the paper and card over time.

We also make refill sets for our flower and seaweed presses, so you can keep pressing for years to come.

Are Studio Wald flower presses reusable?

Yes! Our presses are designed to be used again and again.

Once you’ve finished one collection of flowers, simply open your press, remove your dried botanicals and start again with your next finds.

What size flower press should I choose?

It depends on what you would like to press.

Our smaller presses are lovely for taking with you on walks and holidays, while our larger flower presses give you more room for bigger flowers, leaves and collections of botanical finds.

Are Studio Wald products made in the UK?

Yes. Studio Wald is based in Leeds, Yorkshire, and our products are made in England.

We work closely with manufacturers in the UK to ensure that the vast majority of our components are sourced from reputable UK suppliers.

What materials are Studio Wald products made from?

We carefully consider the materials that go into our products and favour recycled and recyclable materials wherever possible.

All of our presses use wood which is lasercut and printed in Yorkshire using sustainably sourced wood materials. All paper products are printed and finished in and around Leeds using either 100% recycled or sustainably sourced paper.

Are Studio Wald flower presses good gifts?

We think so!

We’re a small family business based on the riverside in Leeds, Yorkshire.
